• From 21 September 2026 drivers of vehicles with a gross vehicle weight of up to 3.5 tonnes with a trailer will no longer be required to pay tolls via the e-TOLL system.

• Users will be able to apply for a refund of any unused funds within 6 months of the Act coming into force.

• Data relating to vehicles that are not required to pay the electronic toll will be removed from the e-TOLL register.

User accounts used exclusively for paying for journeys made by vehicles with a gross vehicle weight of up to 3.5 tonnes with trailers will be closed in accordance with the rules set out in the Act.

Unused funds contributed:

• towards the electronic fee on a prepayment basis and

• towards the guarantee provided in the form of cash in the case of an instalment payment scheme with guarantee linked to vehicles,

are refundable at the user’s request. This application must be submitted within 6 months of the date on which the Act comes into force (21 September 2026). The funds held in users’ settlement accounts will be refunded to the bank account specified in the application.

If the user does not submit an application by the deadline, in accordance with the provisions of the Act, any unused funds held in the settlement accounts will not be refunded and will be transferred to the National Road Fund.
